How to choose the right Cabinet Manufacturer

At Creative Oak furniture, we understand that choosing to go with custom cabinetry is an investment. So we have come up with some helpful ways to help you choose the right company for your needs.

Getting it right before they start cutting

The right cabinet manufacturer will make sure your needs are met BEFORE the first piece of wood is cut. From the measurements, to the layout and the design, the customer should feel in control of what they are paying for.

Picking a cabinet manufacturer near you

Location is important when choosing the right manufacturer. The right location means your manufacturer can:

  • Go over material options in person
  • Deliver your millwork in a timely manner
  • Ensure any finishing touches are completed
  • Any adjustments that need be made can be completed to satification
Choose someone personable

You will be communicating with your manufacturer on a regular basis during your project. Choosing someone who understands that you are making an investment will be paramount. You don’t want someone who seems bothered by your questions or attention to detail.

Vetting for experience

Your manufacturer should have some skin in the game. Experience is one of the MOST important factors when deciding on the right cabinet maker. Experience will be the difference is a furniture piece working for the purpose it was intended for or completely missing the mark and your expectations.

Money should not be the deciding factor

When people shop for cabinet manufacturers, many times money will sway the decision one way or another. The reason why this does not always benefit the consumer is because the materials used can cost you less up front but more in the long run.

For example, a company just looking to seal the deal could tell you the price for their materials is lower and therefore better for your bottom line. But in reality, those materials could only last you a few years, or until they get wet. Particle board is a commonly used, inexpensive wood used in millwork. But the issue with particle board is once it gets wet, it swells and the wood is ruined. Some manufacturers will use particle board in a kitchen but use “the good stuff” in the front. Making the cabinets appear to be solid and sturdy but all that glitters is not gold. Worst off, some manufacturers won’t even tell you why their material costs are so low.

This is why knowing what questions to ask is so important!

Ask the right questions
  • What materials will you be using?
  • How long is this project expected to take?
  • How do I know my deposit is secure?
  • Where can I find some of your customer reviews?
